The first traces of population on the territory of the commune were discovered in 1970, in the form of coins dating from the Gallic period (270-274), and the foundations of a building also dating from the 3rd century. Monswiller was, from the beginning of the 19th century, the seat of metallurgical industries using the driving force of water. The church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption houses an important collection of 86 ex-votos, dated from 1795 to 1825 In the 19th century, Monswiller was one of the most important pilgrimages to the Virgin Mary in the region and painters have created real masterpieces here!
