In 945, Alain Barbetorte offered Batz to the monks of Landevennec. The community grew and the village became an important parish center, as evidenced by the ruins of the Notre-Dame-du-Mûrier chapel and the church of Saint-Guénolé. The monks' skilful development of the salt marshes, the exploitation of the salt pans and the trade in white gold ensured the port's prosperity. The landscapes, the salt-marsh villages (Kervalet, Trégaté...) and the museum all draw on this memory of salt. Faithful to its past, Batz is also a seaside resort with many assets, including the beautiful beaches of Saint-Michel, La Govelle and Valentin, and its wild creeks.
