Saint-Nazaire, at the mouth of the Loire and south of the Guérande peninsula, has been occupied since time immemorial. The beautiful tumulus of Dissignac attests to a very ancient settlement. In 1830, Saint-Nazaire is only a small town. The pilots were an important corporation. But the Loire River was silting up and the large tonnage ships no longer passed through. The city's position at the entrance to the estuary on the north bank was ideal. The construction of its docks launched Saint-Nazaire, which experienced an extraordinary boom. From its docks, cruise liners but also LNG tankers, battleships and cruisers will leave.
