Pornichet is the oldest seaside resort in the region. However, until the nineteenth century, it lived on the exploitation and trade of salt. This village of salt workers is then a "nesting port", conducive to small maritime traffic. An independent municipality since 1900, it saw the salt marshes being filled in, while the arrival of the first train (in 1879) inaugurated the era of seaside tourism. A family resort, it is divided between the beaches set in a rocky coastline, at Bonne-Source and Sainte-Marguerite, the creeks (such as the Pointe du Bec) and the first few kilometers of the bay of La Baule. The place is ideal for going out in the evening.
