Situated 5.5 km from the coast, Groix is a seafaring island. At the beginning of the 20th century, over 300 boats were fishing for albacore tuna, and between 1930 and 1950, 5 canneries were in operation. Today, only Groix & Nature perpetuates this know-how. But if the island is worth a visit, it's undeniably for its remarkable natural heritage: the sublime Grands Sables beach (Europe's largest convex beach) and the Pointe des chats reserve, to name but a few. And don't miss the FIFIG (Festival International du Film Insulaire de Groix), held every August.
