In the Middle Ages, the monks of Redon Abbey operated saltworks between the sea and the Guérande coast, on the road to Pen Bron. In 1827, the first sardine canning factory was built. The sardine fleet expanded rapidly. La Turballe is the leading fishing port in the Pays de Loire region. Sardines and anchovies are trawled all year round, from spring to autumn. Outside these periods, we fish for sea bass, hake, hake, sea bream, cuttlefish and sometimes tuna. Visit the sardinier Au Gré des Vents, the Trescalan bell tower or the Fishing Museum, and hike the coastal path.
