Nestled in the wild nature of Quercy, this small village enjoys a natural and ideal location between Lot and Dordogne. Very early, the Roman legions and pilgrims of Santiago de Compostela or Rocamadour make the town a relay. But it was only in 1238 that Bertrand de Gourdon founded a bastide and gave him his charters. She later took the name of Labastide-Fortanière in memory of Fortanier de Gourdon, a contributor with his heirs of development and defense of the community. Over the centuries, La Bastide is still changing its name. First of all, it is the "Fortunière" by deformation, but also because on these unsafe paths the village provides shelter and protection. Finally, in 1852, by historical and political motivation, the President of the Republic Louis Napoléon Bonaparte, at the request of the municipal council and in honor of Joachim Murat, definitively baptized the places "Labastide-Murat". Finally, in 1994, the descendants of the princely family allowed the city to strike its coat of arms from the coat of arms of the "Centaur King". The visitor will be able to recover from the calm of the white stones and the roofs of Lauzes and vake into the streets loaded with history.
