Padirac sounds like the name of a tourism brand, but it's first and foremost that of a village on the Causses du Quercy. It's a village steeped in history, whose traces can be seen on its walls: those of the château, the Saint-Julien church and the11th-century Romanesque chapel. If you follow the Roman road, you can go back in time to the many dolmens in the area. Padirac also boasts a famous chasm, made famous in 1889 by Edouard-Alfred Martel, the founding father of speleology. It's one of France's greatest geological curiosities, with a monumental entrance 35 m in diameter and 103 m deep.
