Padirac sounds like the name of a tourism brand, but it is above all that of a village in the Causses du Quercy. It is marked by history, the traces of which can be seen in the walls: those of its castle, the Saint-Julien church and the 11th century Romanesque chapel. By walking along the Roman road, we can still go back in time to the dolmens, numerous in the surroundings. Padirac is also famous for its chasm, made famous in 1889 by Edouard-Alfred Martel, founding father of speleology. It is one of the greatest French geological curiosities. It is accessed through its monumental entrance of 35 m in diameter and 103 m deep.
