He was not mistaken, as the landscapes here are fabulous for their color and light. The Marquayrol estate, the painter's home, is perched high on a hill: walk up the pretty little lanes to discover it, and marvel at the view from his studio, a view he painted many times. As you pass by the school, you'll see traces of paint on the windowsill: he sometimes used it as a palette!
