Served in the Middle Ages and transformed into a navigable waterway, the river Lot has shaped the history of its valley. Between the river and the vineyards, Albas was made from the trade of Cahors wines but also from the influence of the then powerful bishops who chose this town as their place of residence. As early as the 11th century, the castle on top of the cliff was a sign of the power of the Lord Bishop of Cahors. Nicknamed Albas la Jolie, it has been enriched since the summer of 2019 with a Tuscan-inspired garden located on one of the terraces overlooking the Lot, at the foot of the former episcopal palace, one of the most beautiful balconies over the Lot valley.
