Duravel is one of the oldest villages in the Quercy region, on the edge of the Cadourques country, at the crossroads of the Agenais and Périgord regions. The village nestles in the folds of wooded hills that separate the river Lot from its tributary, the Thèze. All around, human activity has left traces of a distant past. In the Middle Ages, the walled town of Durivelleris grew up around the Romanesque church of Saint-Hilarion. The foundation of the priory by Moissac Abbey in 1055 transformed the church's architecture. The relics of the "three brothers of the desert": Hilarion, Poémon and Agathon, rest in a sarcophagus behind the altar.
