Mende is essentially a commercial and administrative city, with a lively tourist population in summer. The visit is concentrated in the heart of the town, delimited by a circular boulevard built on the site of the old ramparts, which encloses the imposing cathedral and Place Urbain V, with its statue of the pope, to the right the Hôtel Plagnes, and to the left the former episcopal palace. From here, it's a pleasant stroll to discover the fountains and characterful houses. Further on, the former 18th-century town house boasts a monumental staircase and houses several Aubusson tapestries..
