As France's first duchy (1565), the town of Uzès enjoys a somewhat recessed geographical position, which confirms the impression of a walled city you get when you enter the protected area, surrounded by a circular boulevard. Between the sea and the Cévennes mountains, the town of Uzès attracts many tourists. The charm of its medieval streets, the discovery of the Uzège region, its picturesque hinterland... it's all worth the detour! Hard hit by the Wars of Religion, Uzès Cathedral, which was almost destroyed in the 17th century, now hosts classical music concerts. The cathedral's music-loving past is brought to life here with the Nuits musicales d'Uzès early music festival, one of the oldest musical events in the Gard department. Languedoc and Provençal cultural traditions that we invite you to discover through our terroir, its exceptional products and its natural riches. Indeed, people come from far and wide to stock up at the Wednesday farmers' markets. Even more numerous are those who flock to the famous Place aux Herbes on Saturday mornings, where you can sample local specialities and savour the charm of these markets in the south of France. Truffle lovers are in for a treat on the third Sunday in January, when the truffle market takes place on the Place aux Herbes, providing an opportunity to attend the famous auction and, of course, taste the famous mushroom.
