Perched on an ancient oppidum, Vézénobres, at the crossroads of the Cévennes and Provence, looks as far as the Aigoual and Lozère mountains. A strategic position which encouraged the Romans to initiate a Roman road which, in the Middle Ages, would be an axis of pilgrimage and trade linking the Mediterranean coast to northern France: the Chemin de Régordane, today GR700. Vézénobres was famous for its production of dried figs, and is home to the fig tree conservatory orchard. The delicious fruit is celebrated during the Mediterranean Fig Days which take place at the end of October. Vézénobres is also the heritage conservatory of the Cévennes Piedmont.
