It's no coincidence that this little village is nicknamed "Le petit Gordes de la Gardonnenque". Perched on a hill overlooking a valley planted with vines and olive trees, Martignargues is a place steeped in history, beginning with a Gallo-Roman occupation, then an English stronghold during the Hundred Years' War, and continuing on to become the site of the only major battle won by the Camisards over the armies of Louis XIV in 1704. A stele commemorates this event. To stroll through its narrow streets or along its paths is to listen to the Cévennes converse with the Mediterranean.
