On the eastern slope of the Margeride, at an altitude of 1,300 m, Saint-Sauveur has the particularity of being the least populated commune in the canton of Châteauneuf-de-Randon. It had only 80 inhabitants in 1990, 64 in 2009 ... In 1872, the church bell tower collapsed on the presbytery, killing the priest. It has since been raised up again and preserves a pretty baptismal font bearing the Maltese cross, sign of the Knights of St. Jerusalem who owned the parish. In the surrounding area, there are many granite or wrought iron crosses: boundary, pilgrimage or commemorative crosses.
