The tour begins by passing under one of the monumental gates. There are three of them: Les Chanelles to the south, Soubeyran to the north and Théron to the east. Inside, the neighborhoods have kept their vaulted passageways, corbelled houses and elaborate windows. There are still some fine 18th-century townhouses. The town doesn't live by its past alone, but has chosen modern art to illustrate its identity. The Auricoste statues evoke its history, while the statue of the Third Millennium (Yann Bost and André Wintergerst) at the town's exit is an allegory of man's place in the universe.
