The Causse Méjean, above Sainte-Enimie, is dotted with small hamlets grouped together in the commune of Mas-Saint-Chély. Here, sheep outnumber humans living year-round in these wide-open spaces. Mas-Saint-Chély is a popular destination for solitary walkers. A number of hiking and mountain-biking trails enable visitors to get a feel for this territory, which is still wild in many places. In 2003, 1,400 hectares were ravaged by fire. But since then, nature has regained the upper hand. The Saint-Côme chapel, which was spared by the flames, has been admirably renovated and is well worth a visit.
