It is the source of the Buèges that gave its name to the valley. Just a stone's throw from the pretty village of Méjanel, it is a site that is both refreshing and soothing where many locals come to cool off in the summer. From there, the small Séranne mountain range is open to hikers. We walk on its crest like a tightrope walker between the Larzac and the valley. From up there, you can admire the Buèges valley, it seems isolated from the rest of the world. However, the monks of the abbeys of Aniane and Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert established priories and Romanesque churches there as early as the early Middle Ages. In the valley, you can see the small village of Saint-Jean-de-Buèges, dominated by its feudal castle and the impressive rock of Tras Castel. Further on, proudly camped on a rocky outcrop, Pégairolles-de-Buèges is surmounted by a square tower, a remnant of its former castel. Very picturesque, the village has a traditional architecture and cobbled streets that roll up and down, following the rocks. In Saint-André-de-Buèges, life is more lived in farmhouses, some of which are of ancient origin. However its church is a remarkable building thanks to the preservation of its original pure lines, witnesses of the Lombard architecture.
