The name of this village between Cévennes and Larzac would come from "cerclarias" which evokes the staves who used to manufacture the wood circles used by cooperage. In Sauclières, craftsmen were laying the poles of young chestnut trees, cut during the winter months, cut and worked by the plane to obtain the same thickness. To give them the shape of a hanger, they used "billiards" and then a bending machine. The Romanesque church dates back to the th century. Its nave in cradle and its bedside is a fine example of Romanesque architecture. The village has vestiges of fortifications. The fountain of the Mother of God was a place of pilgrimage to ask for rain.
