Between the Pic Saint-Loup and the Hortus cliffs, the old village of Saint-Mathieu-de-Tréviers stands proudly in a landscape of striking beauty. The site has been inhabited by man for millennia, as evidenced by the presence of a fortified village built in 2400 BC and renovated in 1954. Set amid thick vegetation, the ruins of the village's other stronghold (12th-century Château de Montferrand) keep watch over the surrounding area. Echoing this, the "dent du loup" rises to 658 m, its steep north face revealing the layers of limestone that make up the peak and dominate the ravine. A sublime panorama.
