Built on a slight hill in the middle of the Hérault valley, Gignac is a large winegrowing village that is as lively as a beehive, especially on Saturday, market day. Within its ramparts, this village is rich of some architectural jewels. Its numerous 13th century gates echo its 12th century tower which dominates the town and its Saint-Pierre church. Number 23, of the Grand-Rue is the address of the old hospice dating from the 17th century, today a rural home. The Notre-Dame-de-Grâce chapel, from the 17th century, is worth a visit, because it has an original Italianate façade as well as an astonishing neo-Gothic way of the cross.
