A small medieval village where vines and cereals were grown and animals raised, Montesson became independent of Chatou in 1354. In 1761, the land was purchased by Henri Léonard Bertin, along with that of La Borde. A minister under Louis XV and then Louis XVI, Bertin was a keen agronomist. In collaboration with Parmentier (who invented the famous minced meat dish), he embarked on a series of experiments in Chatou and Montesson, including potato cultivation, Merino sheep breeding and the development of artificial meadows. At the beginning of the 20th century, the village was the spectacular setting for airship flights.
