Jouars-Pontchartrain, located at the foot of the Montfort-l'Amaury plain, is considered a natural "green border" of the Paris region. Comprising a town center, Pontchartrain, and six hamlets, including Jouars, its territory is irrigated by the Mauldre river and the Elancourt and Maurepas rus. In the 1990s, a first-century diodurum was discovered on the edge of the château grounds. Built in the 14th century, it was the home of La Païva, the famous courtesan and spy. The village's remarkable heritage also includes the 11th-century church of Saint-Martin de Jouars, listed as a Monument Historique.
