Zicavo is a village of character in Upper Taravo. It was one of the most important villages in the south of the island in the 16th century and a place of rebellion in 1740 when Baron Johann Friedrich von Neuhoff resisted the French troops with more than a thousand men and led fierce battles that history will remember. There are old houses built of granite, with porches with carved keys. The parish church of the Assumption, in neoclassical style, has a 17th century painting representing the mystical marriage of Saint Catherine. About 8 km from the village, the 16th century chapel of San Pietro is reputed to be miraculous. We are in the fief of the Abbatucci family, whose ancestors were generals of the Empire and ministers of state. The statue of the general watches over the valley from the church gardens.
