Surrounded by coniferous and chestnut forests, the village at the foot of the Bavella massif, an hour's drive from Porto-Vecchio, has over the years become one of Corsica's leading mountain resorts. The commune is one of the largest in Corsica, stretching from the mountains to the coast. It's technically possible to ski and swim in the same town! Numerous hotel-restaurants, for such a small village, plenty of entertainment, stores and typical cuisine await you. Most entrances to Zonza are under the terrible and impressive gaze of the mighty dentition of Bavella, known as the fourches de Bavella or cornes d'Asino. The village is very lively in season, and an essential stopover in the far south. Canyoning, hiking and horse-riding enthusiasts will all be delighted. You can visit the parish church of Santa-Maria-Assunta, one of the few neo-Gothic buildings in Corsica. You can also visit the Santa-Barbara chapel a little further on, two kilometers away. As you leave Zonza, head towards the pass to explore the hundred-year-old chestnut trees and follow the many inter-village paths. These include the ruins of the San-Cesario chapel, whose stoup has been preserved, and the ruins of the former San-Martino church on the slopes of Pointe Radichella. There are several prehistoric sites in the Zonza area. Two alignments have been uncovered near the hamlet of Pacciunituli, and one of the menhirs faces east.
