The islands of the lagoon are the little sisters of Venice, its spatial and landscape complement. From the docks, whether Riva dei Schiavoni in the south or Fondamente Nuove in the north, they never fail to catch the eye. Refuge of the first local civilizations, they are spread out on both sides of the lagoon city. In the north, the airy landscapes and the organization in small villages offer a breath of fresh air to the visitor. Some of the more touristy ones (Murano and Burano) find a soft tranquillity once the evening comes. Others, more preserved (Sant'Erasmo and Vignole) are devoted to the cultivation of vegetable gardens, as their land lends itself particularly well to it. Finally, with the seaside resorts of Lido and Pellestrina, another aspect of Venice is revealed to the visitor.
