Read moreWhen you arrive by train in Santa Lucia, you will suddenly experience an absolute sensation of disorientation. Venice simply jumps out at you! The view of the Grand Canal is superb. Vaporetti 1, 2, 4.1 and 5.1 dock 20 meters away to take you to Rialto or Piazza San Marco, among others. The Santa Croce and Cannareggio neighborhoods are available to you if you prefer to walk. But take your time if you need to. There are many restaurants and stores, as well as tourist information desks in the main hall.

It's quite long but much more pleasant than the bus ride... You will see the city opening up little by little before your eyes, right on the water... a great show! Five lines in total, the blue one (Airport, Murano, Lido, San Marco), the orange one (Airport, Guglie, Rialto, San Maria del Giglio) and the red one (Certosa, Lido, San Marco and Cruise Terminal) embody this network.

In the historic center, an ordinary medium-distance trip will cost you a minimum of €69 (e.g. from Piazzale Roma to San Marco). Rates vary widely according to the route and the driver. It's a good idea to take a water cab with more than one person, as from 4 people the cost will be amortized. There are dedicated terminals, or any hotel can place an order.

All buses stop at the bus station in Piazzale Roma, where you will find a tourist office annex and a luggage storage room. This is the ideal stop for those staying in San Polo or Santa Croce (and even further afield). In fact, the ferry terminals for the center are almost opposite the bus terminal. From there, at the end of your stay, you can also reach the Marco Polo airport by road.

Read morePiazzale Roma is a must for all travelers arriving in Venice by bus from Marco Polo, Treviso or Mestre airports. Located near the Santa Lucia train station, this esplanade is the last place in Venice where you can drive. There's also a vaporetto station, providing access to the city's main points of interest and to nearby islands such as Murano and Lido. However, Piazzale Roma itself is of no tourist interest. It's a transit point where visitors can catch a bus or vaporetto to Venice's historic center.

Read moreThe railway station is located in the south of the city, just outside the city walls, 10 minutes walk from the historic centre. On the Venice-Belluno or Venice-Bolzano lines, departures every 30 minutes or so. Direct connections with Venezia Santa Lucia (30-40 minutes, ticket between 3 and 5 €) and Vicenza (1h10). To Verona, change at Mestre or Vicenza (1h40-2h). To Padua (50 minutes-1h), some direct connections but most often with connections to Mestre or Castelfranco Veneto. Check-in at the station (on the platform on the right as you get off the train).

To Verona, a train about every 20 minutes, between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. There are also connections to Milan, Bergamo and towns south of Lake Garda. Just outside the station, you'll find a tourist office and the terminus of the bus station, from which many regional buses depart. On the right is the streetcar stop for the city center (SIR 1 for Prato della Valle). On foot, it takes a good 15 minutes to reach the Place des Seigneurs.
VERONA BIKE

The system works in a similar way to the Vélib' system in Greater Paris. To rent a bike, you have to register in advance on the Internet or at the tourist office. The registration fee is 2 €/day or 5 €/week. A simple and practical way to get around the city and avoid traffic jams. Be careful, the rules are strict: maximum use of 2 hours, from 6am to midnight (overruns penalized).

Read moreTreviso airport, 5 km southwest of the center. It is served by Ryanair from Paris-Beauvais and Charleroi in Belgium. Flights to several southern Italian destinations are also operated by the same airline. There's a tourist office on site. To reach the city center, bus no. 6 takes you to the train station and Piazza del Duomo, every 20 min on weekdays from 6.10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (every hour on Sundays). Ticket €1.50. Line 351 (ATVO) takes you to Mestre railway station in 55 min.

Read morePorta Nuova station is an important link on the Milan-Venice and Rome-Trento rail lines. It also provides regular services to Padua and Vicenza, as well as to Treviso, with connections to Mestre. The Frecciarossa train connects Verona to Venice in 1 hour 15 minutes, Verona to Bologna in 50 minutes, Vicenza in 25 minutes and Padua in 45 minutes. There are also numerous departures to Brescia and Peschiera del Garda. From the station, you can take ATV lines 11, 12 and 13, among others, to set down your suitcases in Verona.

However, there are no direct flights to Paris. The Aerobus shuttle bus runs between the airport and Porta Nuova station (15 min.) every day, every 20 minutes, between 5:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. approx. Ticket: €6, valid for 75 minutes on the entire Verona public transport network.
