Called Cayo by the locals, San Ignacio is in fact the capital of the Cayo district. The entire population of the district gathers every weekend for the town market, a blend of the diverse populations that make up the country. The House of Culture and a number of local initiatives provide an opportunity to discover Belizean culture through exhibitions, parties and concerts. The city's gastronomic scene is also one of the most interesting in the country, with veritable institutions where you can sample absolutely delicious and innovative dishes. From inns to luxury hotels, there's a wide choice of accommodation.
