El Remate, on the road to Tikal, lies 30 km from Flores, on the eastern edge of the Petén Itza lagoon. Visitors come here for its peace and quiet, which can be appreciated by staying in one of the few establishments immersed in lush natural surroundings on the shores of the lake. The change of scenery is such that it's not uncommon to come across tarantulas or hear howler monkeys in the night. The environment and infrastructure may be too rustic for some, but the majority of travelers are enchanted by the place and end up extending their stay. The program includes swimming, kayaking, hiking and relaxation. One of the village's attractions is its proximity to the Biotopo Cerro Cahuí, to the west.
