West of the town of Orange Walk, on the border line between Belize and Mexico, the village of Blue Creek sits atop one of the many hills of this region considered to be the Mayan Highlands. The route winds peacefully through small Mennonite communities, giving the impression of being far, far away from bushy civilization. More horse-drawn carriages than cars can be seen here. Many birdwatchers come to stay here, as it is reputed to be home to many rare species. There are a few hotels and a restaurant perfect for a stopover on the road.
