From the north coast, numerous miradouros offer beautiful views of São Jorge. But if there's one not to be missed, it's the Ponta do Mistério, a geosite formed by a lava flow dating back to 1562, a fajã as they're called here. If you've been to other islands in the archipelago, you're no doubt familiar with this name. And with good reason: it's the result of volcanic phenomena, each of which creates a unique landscape. A little further on, the forest park, with its picnic area, barbecues and children's games, is an excellent place to take a break.
