Urzelina enjoys a magnificent view of Pico. Although located several kilometres from Velas, it is administratively dependent on it. Its name derives from urzela, "l'orseille", a plant used at the time in dyeing; it reflects the economic importance of the harvest in the 17th century. Its location on privileged land ensured its rapid prosperity, but a volcanic eruption in 1808 destroyed it almost completely. Today, one can see, near the port, a house that served as a warehouse for oranges and large, dilapidated manor houses evoking the past wealth of the producers. Beautiful options for rural and typical housing are possible.
