Peaking at 1,024 m, this old massif is less marked by volcanism than by erosion. And its geological antiquity can be seen in the presence of a large number of dykes, lines of bare stones that are ancient arteries through which the lava flowed. Most of them follow the direction of the massif's crest, which is itself located in the extension of the volcanic rift. There is a great contrast between the windy, dry and dyke-filled southern slope of the Anaga and its northern slope, covered with a forest of giant laurel trees and tree heathers, the largest and best preserved in Tenerife. An area that is protected as a natural park.
