It is famous for its pilgrimage which, on August 14 and 15, attracts several thousand people from all over the archipelago. On its coast, it has suffered from tourist pressure which has resulted in many buildings, somewhat degraded. It is best appreciated by climbing up to its heights to walk through its pedestrian streets and discover Canarian houses perched high up on the hillside. In the centre, in the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias stands an imposing basilica, not far from the black sand beach. And the statues of the nine Guanche kings stand with their backs to the sea. Above this town, the village of Las Cuevecitas is worth a detour.
