Capital of the valley of the same name, it is the authentically Canarian city that benefits from a rich historical past that can be found, intact, in its historic centre. With its beautiful colonial houses, with characteristic balconies, overlooking narrow, cobbled and steep streets, it has been one of the favourite places to visit for many travellers since the end of the 19th century. Founded at the beginning of the 16th century, it is built at the bottom of a very fertile valley which brings water from Aguamansa, the last village before the national park, via underground galleries. Resources that allowed it to be the first Canary Islands banana centre.
