Located 10 kilometres southwest of Valverde, at an altitude of over 1,000 metres, the village of San Andrés lies on a plateau between bright yellow fields enclosed by low walls and black ash hills topped by pine trees. The wind is omnipresent and fog is frequent. People come here mainly to visit the sacred tree of El Garoé, but there are also hikes starting from San Andrés, such as the path del agua. The road from San Andrés to La Frontera runs along the ridge, before meandering towards the El Golfo valley. The result is spectacular scenery, crossing the laurisilva, a very dense endemic forest.
