This big village also called San Mateo has a strong agricultural tradition. Its farmers' market held on Saturdays and Sundays attracts people from all over the island in search of fresh produce. Beyond San Mateo, the road continues to climb towards the Cruz de Tejeda. Turn left to reach Pico de las Nieves via a small winding road. This leads to another road, which joins Cruz de Tejeda to the right and Pico de las Nieves to the left. From the crossroads, the view extends over the north-east of the island. The slopes are covered with pine trees at the top and with houses, those of San Mateo and Santa Brígida, a little lower down.
