The port of La Cruz, once known as Puerto de la Orotava, was an important fishing port from which agricultural exports from the Orotava Valley were shipped and in the 20th century it became the leading seaside destination in the Canary Islands. If the mass tourism of the 50s has somewhat modified its silhouette, the destination nevertheless retains a lot of charm, thanks to its light, its seaside facilities and the liveliness of its fishing district. It is also a permanent fiesta, which culminates in Carnival and the feasts of Almighty God (Gran Poder de Díos), Nuestra Señora del Carmen (16 July) and San Andrés on 29 November.
