This plateau, at the foot of Alto Adige's iconic Sciliar mountain, is reputed to be Europe's largest high-altitude alpine pasture, with 52 km² of vast pastures and small woods. The Alpe di Siusi rises from an altitude of 1,800 to 2,950 m, and its landscape is bucolic: white mazots with their classic wooden facades, small churches with bulbous bell towers, hotels nestled in greenery - everything blends happily with the surrounding nature. Farmers own alpine pastures where they herd their flocks during the summer months until September 29, Saint Michael's Day. On this date, according to legend, the mountain becomes populated with witches and becomes dangerous.
