This plateau, at the foot of Alto Adige's symbolic mountain, the Sciliar, is undoubtedly one of the most famous in Europe: it is the largest high altitude alpine pasture with 52 km2 of vast pastures and small woods. The Alpe di Siusi rises from 1,800 to 2,950 metres above sea level and its landscape is bucolic: white farmhouses with their classic wooden facades, small churches with bulbous bell towers, hotels nestled in the greenery, everything harmonizes with the surrounding nature. The hilly landscape is punctuated by small houses, which do not exceed 4 m by 4 m and have only 2 rooms: the kitchen from which the fireplace emerges and the barn-bedroom. Between 400 and 500 farmers share the high plateau. Each of them owns a mountain pasture where they graze their herds during the summer months until September 29, the day of San Michele. On this date, according to legend, the mountain becomes populated with witches and becomes dangerous
