South of Zell am See and at an altitude of almost 800 m, Kaprun is a very pleasant resort. Its prosperity was ensured in the 1950s by hydroelectric installations, which created two imposing dams that can be visited (access by cable car, instructive and panoramic). The village is known for its year-round skiing, with summer skiing on the Kitzsteinhorn since the glacier was built in 1865, and there are many walks from Kaprun, particularly to the summit of the Grossglockner. A12th-century fortified castle hosts shows. The Hohenwart park houses a regional museum.
