The capital of the province of Trentino-Alto Adige offers a lively atmosphere in all seasons. Its castle of Buonconsiglio, its museums, its cathedral and its ski area are not to be missed. In the Austrian era, Trento was one of the three cities in the Tyrol that were geographically located on the "road to Italy". In contrast to its southern Tyrolean neighbors, Trento has always looked south and not north to Vienna. In Bozen-Bolzano, it is already Austria; in Trento, it is Italy. Trento is a historic and culturally active city, but it is also a dynamic and forward-looking student city. In 2005, Bill Gates chose Trento to create a joint laboratory between Microsoft and the University of Trento, the Cosbi, now based in Rovereto.
