Located in northwest Carinthia, northeast East Tyrol and southern Salzburgerland, it is Austria's highest peak (3,798 m) and an Austrian symbol on a par with Mont Blanc in France. The Grossglockner, located in the Hohe Tauern National Park, is crossed by a mountain road that is one of the country's most beautiful itineraries, linking Heiligenblut in Carinthia to the Salzburg region, a toll road open in summer and offering a view of the eternal snows of the glaciers. You reach the foot of the giant, facing the Pasterze, Austria's largest glacier. In winter, access is via the Heiligenblut ski resort.
