Grindavík is the only village on the peninsula's southern coast. It is dominated by Mount Þorbjarnarfell, an active volcano that separates it from the Blue Lagoon area. It's a pleasant, flat little town, where colorful detached houses line up neatly. Apart from the pleasant atmosphere, the main reason to visit is the Saltfish Museum. If you take Route 425, you can also reach the Brimketill Lava Rock Pool. This is a sublime spot in stormy weather, known for its high waves. In calm weather, you can also enjoy a small natural hot-water pool, but be very careful.
