This quiet little community occupies the north-western tip of the peninsula, a strategic position that explains the presence of two lighthouses exposed to the winds. Just a ten-minute drive from the airport, Garður is well worth a visit for its lighthouses, one of which, red and white, is a particular delight for budding photographers. It's also a wilderness by the sea, with small lodgings and restaurants facing the immensity of the waters. In winter, the old lighthouse is a popular observation point for hunting the northern lights (as always, there's no guarantee of seeing any!).
