From Hvolsvöllur, routeno. 1 passes through lush countryside, then skirts the foothills of Eyjafjöll before arriving in Skógar. Skógar is a small hamlet where you can admire the superb Skógafoss waterfall, the starting point for the Þórsmörk-Fimmvörðuháls trek. There is a campsite on site, but with little infrastructure and a lot of foot traffic, and guesthouses/hotels, but prices are higher here than elsewhere due to the popularity of the site. Best to skip the tour if you're on a budget. To the east of Skógar, routeno. 1 skirts the rocky foothills of Mýrdalsjökull and its lush green meadows.
