"The Black Fields are a high-temperature thermal zone. The geothermal plant next to the pool supplies the Reykjavík district with natural hot water. The excess water flows into a lagoon. Here, "plant" simply means "hot water collection" and in no way implies any polluting activity. At the Blue Lagoon, you can immerse yourself in warm water (38°C on average). The huge pool is bordered in places by lichen-covered (or snow-covered, depending on the season) volcanic rock. A small grotto in volcanic stone and artificial waterfalls are also part of the décor. At the end of 2023, a major eruption took place very close to the lagoon.
