The Reykjanes peninsula in south-west Iceland will undoubtedly be your first and last contact with the country, as the international airport is located here in Keflavik. Close to the capital and home to a number of sites of interest, this very special region is first and foremost a destination for excursions. You're in the heart of an area of significant geothermal activity, which visitors often discover through the famous Blue Lagoon, rightly a must-see in local tourism. Many other places are worth a visit, such as Krísuvík (hot springs and bubbling mud pools) or the coastal town of Grindavik.
