Hellnar and Arnarstapi are two small neighboring villages that often go hand in hand. Set in a strange lava landscape, they are reputed to hide elven dwellings. The whole is dominated by a curious giant statue of a "cubic" fisherman. The lava flow, which has reached the coast here, has been eroded and sculpted by the sea. The cliffs, black with basalt organs, are covered with kittiwakes. In three places, the surf has dug under the rock, forming perfect arches like the Gatklettur, through which the sea blows its foam. Good to know: from Arnarstapi, you can enjoy beautiful hikes along the south coast.
